Acerca del evento

Write your poetry for the dead in our workshop "Literary Calaverita" or "Calaverita Literaria."

You don't need to be an expert!

The idea is to write a concise story/tale about the interaction between the Angel of Death and someone you want to dedicate the poem to.

Writing poems to the dead is a fun and creative way to remember what they liked to do, say, or eat in life.

At the end of the workshop, you will have written at least one "literary calaverita" on a designed sheet of paper alluding to the Day of the Dead.

Choose who you want to write a literary calaverita for, whether for a living or dead person. A literary skull is a poem that describes, in a funny way, the characteristics of the person, qualities, defects, and hobbies. It also includes elements that the person likes: drinking, smoking, watching TV, playing games, talking, you name it.

The literary calaverita is a text written with specific and picaresque rhymes during the day of the dead because it includes the different ways of naming death, such as the grim reaper, the skeleton, the bony one, and expressions of death such as on the wrong side of the grass, the big adios, bite the dust, it's clipped, reset character, …

You will be able to take home a unique sheet of paper with your poem, picaresque expressions about death, and pleasant memories of the person for whom you decided to make the calaverita.

This workshop is for people from 15 to 100 years old.

They can be under 15, but they should know how to play with language.

They should understand that there are words that end with the same syllables, and they can make verses without effort. They don't need to be experts in poetry or know how to rhyme; they will learn all that in the workshop.

This workshop will be given in Spanish or English.
